HelmandHelmand (Balochi, Pashto, Persian: هلمند) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan. It is in the south-west of the country. Its capital is Lashkar Gah. The Helmand River flows through the mainly desert region, providing irrigation. The population is largely Pashtun, while Baloch make up the minority. Helmand produces 20% of the world's opium.
