Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh pronunciation (Hindi: हिमाचल प्रदेश), formerly the Punjab Hill States, is a mostly mountainous state in northern India. Neighbouring regions are Tibet to the east, Jammu and Kashmir to the north and northwest, Punjab to the southwest, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to the south and Uttarakhand to the southeast. The state capital is Shimla (formerly British India's summer capital under the name Simla), other major towns are Solan, Dharamsala ( where many Tibetan exiles have settled in Upper Dharamsala, or McLeod Ganj and have established monasteries, temples and schools), Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Hamirpur, Dalhousie and Manali. The western Himalayas lie in the north and east and the smaller Shiwalik (or Shivalik) range in the south.Himachal Pradesh has five major rivers:Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, Beas and Yamuna. The Himachali economy is mainly dependent on tourism and apples. Kullu, Manali, Shimla, Palampur and Dharamshala are famous tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh. There are also some natural minerals in the state. There are two large cement factories catering not only to the people of Himachal but also selling in other states. Moreover, Himachal has got significant service class and is one of highest per capita income states in India. Solan Brewery established 1855, belonging to Mohan Meakin Ltd. is the oldest brewery in Asia and still operates in the town of Solan. over the past 150 years, the brewery has provided the economic growth to transform Solan from a small village into the second largest city in Himachal Pradesh. Due to the abundance of perennial rivers, Himachal also sells hydro electricity to other states such as Delhi, Punjab & Rajasthan.
