Tibet

Tibet is located on the Tibetan Plateau, the world's highest region. Most of the 4 million years old, Himalaya mountain range, lies within Tibet. Tibet today is administered under the People's Republic of China. The Chinese gov. & the Government of Tibet in Exile since 1959, disagree the incorporation into China was legitimate. Tibet in most European languages, is derived from the Arabic word Tubbat derived via Persian from the Turkic word Töbäd, meaning "the heights".Tibet in Medieval Chinese, 吐蕃 (Pinyin Tǔfān, often given as Tubo), is derived from the same Turkic word. Tibetan are exiled and live in Bhutan, Nepal, India and many other countries. This section is for Tibetans living mainly in South Asia. They live in cities like Thimpu, Kathmandu, Ladakh, Dharamsala and many more. There is a large Tibetan settlement in South India near Kushalnagara.
